Peridinium gatunense (center pigmented cell) infested by the fungus (round colorless cells) Phlyctochytrium sp. The colored protoplasm of Peridinium is contracted in the central part of the cell, an indication of a dying or dead cell. The fungal sporangia are at a developed stage with zoospores about to emerge out of in order to infect new Peridinium cells.
