Unicellar desmid with two chloroplasts which show shape in cross-section. The insert shows the delicate surface texture of cell surface in high resolution (Planapochromat 63/1.4). The usually seen longitudinal stripes are not yet developed. Each binary marks a cross line on the cell . The single crossline indicates that this cell underwent only one (its first) binary after developing from a . This picture was built up using numerous DIC frames with manual stacking technique.
Sample from sphagnum pond situated in the northern alpine region of Austria near Salzburg. Images were taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera.
