Staurastrum teliferum



caption Staurastrum teliferum is a small desmid with an acanthous cell wall. Desmids have the ability to move slowly excreting mucilage out of special pores. The semicell on the right is seen in apical view showing the riangular outline and the mucilage pores at in the centre of the semicell surface. Depth of focus technique was used for the attempt.
 
Sample from spagnum pond situated in the northern alpine region of Austria near Salzburg. Images were taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera.
