BiodivDP Contribution Tools - The Add new Glossary Item Form
This help page describes the data entry form for adding a glossary item.
To add a glossary term, a login as contributor is required as for all add new item forms, because the rubric 'data input' is not available for registered members and guests. Please go to the menu bar on the left side of the website and click on 'data input' to open the submenu with different options of adding new items. To begin the data input procedure please choose the entry form for glossary terms as single entry. This adding form is, such as all the data input forms in the 'data input' rubric, developed for scientific input, while the adding forms for documents and news are intended for project-oriented information (see
Forms for adding new Items).
This entry form to add new glossary items follows the general data input procedure including the three phases of adding data, previewing the entered information, and finally saving data (see
Contribution Tools).
On the top of the form you will find the data entry status bar, signifying the current data entry phase.
Please watch the steps in the example of the glossary term 'cribra' illustrated by the following figures.
After opening the data input form for glossary items, you will find three input fields as you can see in figure 1.
The input fields of the glossary term and the corresponding description are mandatory (labelled red) to enable the 'next' button for the second phase to preview the entered data.
If you wish to add an explanatory image to the glossary term, you can type or paste the image file name into the input field or use the browse button to search for the correct image file. Then upload it. Please upload your image in .jpg format. If you try to upload it in .tif or .gif or any other format, an error prompt will be displayed for incorrect file type.
As you can see in figure 1, the image file in .jpg format to the glossary term of 'cribra' is displayed underneath the input field after uploading in the first phase of the data input procedure, but will not show up in the preview mode (figure 2).
There is a simple text input field for the description of the glossary term. If you have entered the entire information, please click on the 'next' button to switch to the second phase of the data input procedure (figure 2).
You will find three buttons in this preview mode to proceed:
1. 'cancel' to delete the whole entry
2. 'back' to go back and correct something wrong
3. 'save data' to move on the the third phase.
If everything of your entry is alright, you can finally save the entered information and move on to the third phase of the data input procedure.
After clicking the 'save data' button you will see a message in the data input panel informing you that the record has been saved (figure 3), while the entered information of the new glossary term will automatically be displayed in the search panel. If you click on the button 'enter another glossary term', the corresponding input form will be opened in the data input panel for further entries.
