to provide a comprehensive online resource for the archival of plankton related data. We aim to provide 1. authoritative information on the taxonomy of phyto- and zooplankton and 2. a facility for the archival of current observation data e.g. on harmful algae. Numerical observational data related to plankton species can be archived in the  information system PANGAEA (www.pangaea.de, submit to info@pangaea.de); the data will be made available through the "species details" page.

We welcome contributions of image material from scientist working with plankton in order to build an archive of the biogeography of different plankton species. Please contact Alex Kraberg (Alexandra.Kraberg@awi.de) to discuss contributions.
