Protoperidinium bipes

caption This is a small Protoperidinium species with a triangular epitheca ending in a short apical horn. The hypotheca forms two lobes extending beyond the posterior end of the sulcus. Each lobe bears two divergent antapical spines. Due to its small size and the fact that the cell contents are colourless, P. bipes can easily be overlooked, even in stained samples.
