Protoperidinium thorianum

caption P. thorianum can easily be distinguished from other Protoperidinium species by the surface structure of its thecal plates which bear distinct papillae. This image originated from a surface water sample taken in April in the Eastern Irish Sea. The species has also been found in Morecambe Bay, UK. This species is apparently cosmopolitan.
