Nitschia sigmoidea, pennate diatom, near shore, benthic.
Solitary cells are very large, usually > 150 μm long, with a broad girdle view, at least 10 μm across, cells usually slightly sigmoid. With two plate-like chloroplasts, one on each side of a central colorless region and not reaching the ends of the cell.
