This highly contractile marine ciliate has cirri in oblique and marginal rows and three rows of cilia, thus it is a hypotrich ciliate. The adoral zone of membranelles shows clearly the arrangement of cilia in relation to membranelles.
The very special cilia (visible as a row) each emerge from a cortical . indicates 100 µm.
Collected from Bodden, the brackish waters lying between the isles of Hiddensee and Ruegen (German Baltic Sea). This image was taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera.
