Rhoicosphenia abbreviata is a tiny araphid diatom living attached on substratum by a jelly stalk. The substratum here is the red alga Polysiphonia fibrillosa. The other epibionts are Cocconeis and a filamentous colony of the Pseudanabaena. indicates 10 µm. Collected from Bodden, the brackish waters lying between the isles of Hiddensee and Ruegen (German Baltic Sea). This image was taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera.
