Staurastrum margaritaceum
caption This tiny desmid has a highly intricated 3-dimensional structure. In order to capture this the picture was built up using 7 DIC frames with manual stacking technique using Corel Photopaint. The scale bar indicates 50 µm.
 
Sample from a freshwater pond on the island of Hiddensee (Baltic Sea, Germany). Images were taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera.
