Closterium venus



caption This Closterium species has two chloroplasts with two pyrenoids each, the nucleus at the center of the cell huddled against a chloroplast, and the characteristic fine grits in the vacuoles at both apexes and (a very special feature) the central vacuole.
 
Sample from sphagnum pond situated in the northern alpine region of Austria near Salzburg. Images were taken using Zeiss Universal with Olympus C7070 CCD camera.
